Valerie L. (Benner) Shaffer, 66 of Jasper Michigan, went to be with Our Lord Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family. Valerie was born in Toledo and spent over 30 years as a Therapeutic Program Worker for the State of Ohio where she was dedicated to helping people with mental health issues.
She enjoyed boating and fishing on the Great Lakes and spending time with her family. Her strong Catholic faith gave her courage during her declining health and now she has found eternal peace. Valerie was preceded in death by her father Robert Benner, Sr.
She was the loving wife of Richard Shaffer for the past 25 years and cherished mother of Sarah Davis and Lisa Moffitt; adored grandmother of Caroline, Nathan and Grace Davis and Julia Moffitt; treasured stepmother of Ryan Shaffer and Harmony (Chris) Sockman and their children; favorite sister to Robert Benner, Jr. and sister-in-law to Karen Shaffer and daughter-in-law to Donna Shaffer. Valerie's greatest gift was the love she gave to her family.
Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. on Friday, October 5 from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 6 beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Community Outreach at Holy Trinity Parish.
